Wisconsin Registered Agent Service

Every LLC and corporation in Wisconsin must have a registered agent — a real person or company at a physical address, available during business hours, to accept legal documents on your behalf. We've been doing this reliably since day one.

What Is a Registered Agent?

A registered agent (also called a statutory agent or agent for service of process) is the designated recipient for official government and legal correspondence delivered to your business. This includes lawsuits, subpoenas, state compliance notices, annual report reminders, and any other formal legal process.

Wisconsin law — specifically Wis. Stat. § 183.0113 for LLCs and § 180.0501 for corporations — requires every formal business entity registered in the state to continuously maintain a registered agent with a physical street address in Wisconsin (not a P.O. box).

  • Unlimited document receipt — no per-document fees

Why Use a Professional Service Instead of DIY?

You can serve as your own registered agent in Wisconsin, provided you have a physical in-state address and are available during all normal business hours. In practice, this creates real problems:

  • Your home address becomes public record. The Wisconsin DFI's database is publicly searchable. Using your home address means anyone — including process servers, competitors, or hostile parties — can find it instantly.
  • You must be present. If you're traveling, at a job site, or simply out when a process server arrives, the document can be left undelivered, which may trigger a default judgment against your business.
  • Annual report reminders. Registered agent services track renewal deadlines so you don't inadvertently let your entity fall out of good standing.

At $59 per year — less than $5 a month — a professional registered agent is one of the highest-ROI protections a small business can buy.

How It Works

After you add Registered Agent service to your cart and complete checkout, we'll update our records to list Anchor Filings as your registered agent with the Wisconsin DFI. If you're forming a new business, we handle the agent designation as part of the formation process at no extra charge when you bundle services.

  1. Add to cart and complete your order.
  2. We file the Statement of Change of Registered Agent with the DFI (if you have an existing entity) or include our address in your Articles at formation.
  3. Documents addressed to your business at our address are received, scanned same-day, and uploaded to your client portal.
  4. You get an instant email and SMS alert with a link to the document.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a P.O. box as my registered agent address?

No. Wisconsin requires a physical street address. P.O. boxes are not accepted. This is a hard rule from the DFI — there are no exceptions.

What happens if I miss a service of process delivery?

If a process server cannot deliver legal papers and the registered agent fails to accept them, the court can treat it as valid service after a waiting period. This can result in a default judgment against your business — a serious and costly outcome. A professional service eliminates this risk entirely.

Is registered agent service included when I form an LLC with you?

It's included in the first year with our LLC Pro and Formation + Compliance Bundle packages. For standalone LLC Formation ($159), registered agent can be added à la carte for $59/year.

How do I switch from my current registered agent to Anchor Filings?

After you place your order, we file a Statement of Change of Registered Agent/Registered Office with the Wisconsin DFI on your behalf. The $10 state filing fee is included in your service cost. The change typically takes 1–3 business days to reflect in the DFI's database.

Do you serve as registered agent outside Wisconsin?

Currently Anchor Filings provides registered agent service in Wisconsin only. If your business is registered in multiple states, you'll need a separate registered agent in each state where you're registered to do business.
